Ongjin County is making the seagull, a bird representing a friendlier and more cheerful image, as its mascot. It intends to use the mascot for the promotion of the attractions, local specialties, and well-known mountains . It ultimately aims at enhancing awareness of Ongjin County and making it seem friendly to the public. The names of the mascot are Ong-I for men and Jin-I for women reflecting the name, Ongjin.
