As bay entrance is wide and water depth is deep, large ships can sail through to Shangshan Port. Also, the area is surrounded by mountains to make it suitable as an anchorage port. The area is well known as fluorite deposit site, and the area name originated from Shangshan Mountain. Exchange Details - Ongjin-gun is doing a realistic exchange with Shangshan Village, Ningbo City Zhejiang Province in China, the leader in the West Coast area. Activities include exchange visits of fishery-related government officials, joint developments of fishery farming technology and sending exchange delegates to festivals in both regions. - People from Ongjin-gun visited Shangshan Village in China on October 26, 2004 to sign the friendly exchange agreement. Since then, agreement on the mutual visits between the Head of Shangshan Village with representatives that include the Director of Shangshan Fishery Technology Research Center and staff in Fishery Farming Technology Joint Development Division was signed for the joint development of fishery farming technology. Also, both parties agreed to send exchange delegates to festivals in both regions. - Shangshan Village showed great interest on the fishery farming area after visiting the City Fishery Seed Culture Center. Also, the globalization of local events and regional exchange are realized by sending delegates to festivals in both regions.
